is a UK Registered Charity, founded in 1992 by British viola player Rosemary Nalden in response to a BBC programme highlighting the difficulties besetting a string project.The school offers specialised tuition to some 60 youngsters aged between 10 and 23, but has turned away over a 1000 students through lack of resources. It now has a teacher- training scheme for its senior students.There is an instrument repair workshop run by Sonja Bass, offering skills training to local youth in Soweto.120 distinguished professional musicians who took part in a simultaneous fundraising “Busk” at 16 British Rail Stations. Rosemary moved to South Africa to establish the Buskaid Soweto String Project (BSSP), formed from the younger members of the original project.
