The key to James and his bands’ successes is due to his ideal that music and dance should never find themselves too distant from each other. In his own words: "There should be a single word that describes both music and dance, as they are ultimately one and the same.
The 1940’s and 50’s is an era where I have always believed musicians balanced instinctive rhythm and artistic purity perfectly. THIS is where the Sticky Triggers was born – artists dedicated to providing a unique, authentic evening of thrilling dance music."
Besides working predominantly as a band-leader, James performs regularly on the trombone for ensembles ranging from the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jonny Cooper and Mike Campbell Big Bands to musicals such as Big Band Blast (Jhb) and Chicago-The Musical (CT). He is also frequently commissioned to write, arrange for and direct different professional and school ensembles and productions, his latest being the corporate theatre-piece, Shine, performed at FNB’s R3.2bn sponsorship launch for the 2010 Football World Cup.
