Kaya Africa was formed in Johannesburg in 2000; they are a fully professional 5-piece group consisting of three marimbas, one steel pan and drummer/percussionist. Disciplined and serious about their profession, they are one of South Africa’s top marimba bands.
Daniel Dlamini is band leader and founder of the group; he plays marimbas, steel pan and African drums. He also makes all the instruments himself. The group wear traditional African costumes and play traditional African tunes, Caribbean music and a variety of other styles of music.
Two dancers can be added who perform Bushman, Zulu and Xhosa dancing.
The band has performed in Algeria and Spain. Apart from corporate & private events, music festivals they also perform regularly at restaurants in and around Johannesburg.
