Thembinkosi Nkabinde
Umkhonto was formed in 2001 by Thembinkosi Nkabinde and was then referred to as Vuka-Lova Arts & Cultural Group. On the year 2002, Umkhonto Arts & Cultural Development Programmes was registered as a Non- Profit Organisation. This Programme is a local entertainment organization which specializes in performing art, organizing festivals, showcases, train and promote any indigenous talents and to place artists in all art forms, actors, dancers, singers, models, writers, directors, composers, extras and many more. Umkhonto have produced a huge cast of dancers and singers who currently has a membership of more than 70 participants all from Soweto. The group also works with Simon Nkosi who began dancing in early 80ís, danced in music videos of Mango Grove Special star, Home Talk, and also performed in Miss World 1995, Grahamstown national arts Festival 1996. He graduated in 1995 in Moving Into Dance (MID), Won Dance umbrella Award in 1995 & 1996. Some of the dancers trained by this group are working in Footprint, Umoja, and other musical shows.
