Jeniffer Jones
Returning to Cape Town in 1990 Jennifer began to develop her own musical material. She soon established herself as one of the leading female R&B, Soul and Jazz vocalists on the local scene. The “Jennifer Jones Band” took Cape Town audiences by storm and lead to her later collaboration with ex Blood, Sweat & Tears trumpeter Bruce Cassidy on various recording projects. As an up and coming talent, Jennifer continued to impress. In 1992 she performed with a local group called ‘No Strings Attached’, Thandi Klaasen at the Nico Theatre, Oude Libertas Ampitheatre, the Free Peoples Jazz Concert at the V & A Waterfront and ‘Night Of 100 Stars’ at the Nico Opera House. Jennifer was seen appearing with Duran Duran, Dr Alban and completing album projects with names like Black Noise and Jonathan Selby. The following years also included various studio recordings featuring this multi-talented artist in numerous radio and TV commercials. In 1995 she signed to Sony Music Entertainment South Africa. This opened new avenues to her and lead to performances such as the opening of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the 1995 Miss World Pageant at the Sun City Superbowl, a starring role in a feature documentary for UN 50th Anniversary celebrations , supports acts for Tina Turner and Michael Jackson, and singing the theme song for the launch of the new South African Constitution. In July 1997, Jennifer Jones released her debut album under the Sony Label “Slow Down’. The album holds elements of soul and jazz with a constant referral back to the gospel sound. “For me, my voice is an instrument of expression, and not just a vehicle to communicate lyrics of a song”. A positive attitude, reflected in her outgoing personality, Jennifer has a clear focus for the future. With driving ambition, achievement will not be difficult for this distinguished artist.
